I was an anthropology major in college and grad school.
Old loves never die.
When I came across One Fine Thread, Anna Haber’s blog on global craft traditions and skills, my heart skipped. It’s the same feeling I get when I find myself in a particularly wonderful souk or West African grand marche. At the swirl of color, the overabundance of stuff and the possibility of finding a treasure hidden in the flotsam of semi-whole objects worn with age, I begin to vibrate. I love that treasure hunt and, as a travel person, I advise all my friends and clients to make a market stop an essential part of their discovery of place.
But when, on a workday mid-morning, you need a bit of a lift, a hint of escape, a whiff of fantasy, a twirl of magic, pull up One Fine Thread and see what Anna has culled from around the world. It’s almost every bit as special.
