Selin Rozanes is the kind of Turkish Mother you would like to have grown up with…warm, smart, pragmatic — and a superb cook.  Having tired of office work a few years back, she opened her own culinary business, offering cooking lessons in her antique-filled home and then expanding out of the kitchen to offer insights in to all aspects of Turkish food.  From home-hosted dinners in her Tesvikiye flat to market walks not only in Istanbul but also in Cappadocia, Bodrum and Ephesus, her great passion is to celebrate the world of Turkish flavors.  Whether with her Istanbul Streetfood Walk or her culinary cruise around the Prince’s Islands, she is a walking encyclopedia on the wines and foods of her lovely country.

And now, Derian has opened on Christopher Street in a double-windowed storefront of a two-story 18th century house.  It's like walking in to another world.  Traditional Astier, and the later Derian/Astier collaborative pieces, line the walls from roof to floor of the front room.  The back room, wallpapered in his new cabbage rose design and lit by beautiful Balthus-designed standing lamps with parchment shades, offers a living room in which to settle in, thumb through books and albums, and rest the soul.
