Set on 1,000 acres deep in the pine forests of the Adirondack Mountains is Lake Kora, formerly Kamp Kill Kare, one of the “Great Camps” built over a century ago in Upstate New York. From the turn of the century to the Depression, extremely wealthy families (Rockefellers, Astors, Vanderbilts) headed north of New York City to these lavish camps during the summer months to escape the heat and enjoy the wilderness without leaving the comforts of civilization behind. The family heads would invite friends and business associates alike to their sprawling compounds, where manliness was tested in the forms of fishing and hunting in the remote woodlands. In the evening came the boat parties, tuxedo dinners and candlepin bowling.

Today, Lake Kora, the grandest and best-preserved of all the camps originally built in 1898, is available for exclusive use. The property consists of 11 log cabins, eight of which are used for accommodation, the others for delicious meals, cozy gatherings, and play. The pristine and private lake is of course the hub of daily activity,  and there are a number of canoes, kayaks, and sailboats available for use. The lake is especially magical during sunset, when nothing but the nearby loon calls can be heard, right before heading to the main lodge where a blazing fire and warm meal awaits.

Lake Kora is a fully-staffed and all-inclusive rustic paradise, a magnificent playground for both adults and children. The camp offers everything from fishing and boating to bowling and tennis. A two-story spa building the “Ice and Meat House”, offers a hot tub and sauna. For small corporate events there is the “Power House”overlooking the lake, an inspiring work environment indeed!

Lake Kora is available for exclusive use from July-October.
