Here are two apps that are both fun and useful in keeping the brain in olympic shape! The first, Lumosity, trains facets of that gray matter that get sloppy if not sharpened with exercise: memory; attention; speed; problem solving; and that critical factor, flexibility. After creating a very simple personal profile, sign in with one of their payment plans and play. Short tutorials set you on your path which ideally should include three sessions a week, each taking no more than five minutes. Track your brain performance index after each session and look at your weekly progression – or digression.
The other app is Quizup, a different training opportunity that tests you, in timed games played against random individuals or personally selected friends, on specific topics. These range from general knowledge to economics, geography, grammar and more. Each subject is further subdivided, making for very challenging sessions. Available in the Apple Store, search Quizup.
With so much time plugged in to our devices, it seems crazy not to keep that most valuable muscle in fine, operating shape.
Today is the 216th anniversary of the first parachute jump. I will have to do some googling to find out more about this event. In the meantime, though, I am once again enchanted by the imagination of the google artist who created today's google banner. I have played it again and again and share it, delightedly, with everyone I know.
