There’s a shot in this documentary, just before the deeply moving story about a woman whose life was turned upside down by a horrific accident, that shows a magazine cover. It is me on that cover, and by some extraordinary sensitivity, my son recognized his mother of 40 years ago in the few seconds that the image stayed on the screen. Long story short, he called me to confirm, and I rented the film.
This wonderful documentary is about happiness – what makes it, who manifests it, what the biology of it is. It is a film we all should see, a requirement that allows us, in a gentle, humorous and sometimes gripping way, to check in with our hearts and our path. Taking us from the Louisiana bayou, to the streets of New York, to the valleys of Bhutan, scientists, doctors and students talk about the work done and the results garnered, and let us know what the (simple) building blocks are of this most fundamental gift.
